South-west beekeepers hosted its first south-west beekeepers summit at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Guesthouse Igbeba, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State Nigeria on the 21st October 2017, and #TeamWildlifeAfrica participated actively in the summit by not only attending but also a presentation on Bees Conservation, theme “One strategy – 3 Goals – ” was delivered by its founder, Felix Abayomi. The summit, the first of its kind for beekeepers in south-west Nigeria was a conglomeration of seasoned Apiculturists, Researchers, Academicians and various stakeholders on beekeeping.

Our interest in Bees Conservation was explained to the beekeepers while highlighting threats of extinction bees are facing now, what the beekeepers can do to mitigate these threats and our willingness to partner with them on bees’ conservation practices.

The organizers describe #TeamWildlifeAfrica’s participation as not only uplifting to the group but added meaning to what they are doing. We were subsequently invited #TeamWildlifeAfrica to the join them in Montreal, Canada, for the 46th APIMONDIA (International Apicultural Congress) that will take place from September 8 – 12, 2019.
